High-Contrast Raised Acrylic Logo Sign for Brisbane Cooking School
The Challenge: A Logo That Needed to Pop from Far Away
When the team at Come and Cook Brisbane Cooking School approached us, they had a clear vision: they wanted their brand to be unmissable. Their logo features a bright, warm yellow—a colour that speaks to energy, creativity, and the joy of cooking. But they needed it to command attention from across the street, not just up close.
Their requirements were simple but demanding:
- Maximum contrast: The yellow logo had to leap off the background
- Long-distance visibility: People walking or driving past should see it instantly
- Classy, premium feel: Not just flat, but with texture and depth
- Durable construction: Built to last in a busy cooking school environment
They came to Laser Dragon because they needed precision, bold colour, and that extra dimension that flat signs just can't deliver.
Our Solution: Raised Acrylic with Maximum Contrast
We designed and fabricated a multi-layer raised acrylic sign that does exactly what the client wanted—and more.
| Component | Material | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Backboard | 3mm Gloss Black Acrylic | Creates a sleek, dark canvas that makes the yellow explode with contrast |
| Raised Logo | Warm Yellow Acrylic 10mm fabricated | Forms the logo elements, raised a full centimetre off the backboard for dramatic depth |
Why This Design Works
1. Colour Contrast
The combination of warm yellow on gloss black is deliberately high-contrast. Black absorbs light, while yellow reflects it. The result? The logo appears to glow, even without backlighting. It's visible from much farther away than a single-colour or low-contrast sign could ever be.
2. Physical Depth
Raising the yellow logo 10mm above the black backboard does two things:
- It creates real shadows, giving the sign a dynamic, handcrafted appearance
- The physical layers catch light differently throughout the day, so the sign always looks interesting.
3. Texture and Class
Flat printed signs look, well, flat. Raised acrylic feels substantial. When you run your hand over it, you feel the contours of the logo. That tactile quality signals quality—this isn't a cheap sticker, it's a permanent brand statement.
4. Laser Precision
Every curve of the logo, every detail of the typography, was cut with micron-level accuracy using our Trotec Speedy 400. The edges of the 10mm yellow acrylic came off the laser polished and ready to install—no sanding, no buffing, no delays.
5. Unlimited Colour Options
Most people assume acrylic signage is limited to the colours available off the shelf—and yes, we stock a wide range of standard acrylics. But for this project, the warm yellow was a perfect match straight from our inventory.
However, if your brand uses a specific custom colour —perhaps a particular shade of teal, a soft pastel, or a vibrant orange not found in standard acrylic—we have UV printing or Spray Painting options.
This means you are never limited by material stock. If you can imagine a colour, we can likely achieve it—either through direct acrylic availability, UV printing, or custom painting.
The Result: A Sign That Makes People Stop and Smile
The finished sign now greets students and visitors at Come and Cook Brisbane Cooking School with warmth and personality.
The client's reaction said it all:
"Love love love my new sign!!! Do you?"
And when a Facebook follower joked, "The whisk is upside down," the playful response was perfect: "Only joking. I love it."
That's the power of great signage—it becomes part of your brand's story, sparks conversation, and makes people feel connected.
