Acrylic Cafe Logo Signage
The Challenge
A Brisbane café called Double Yolk Coffee & Food wanted a standout sign that would:
- Make their brand visible day and night
- Create a premium, inviting atmosphere
- Withstand the casual wear and tear of a busy café environment
Located in Park Ridge, this local café wanted a sign that would capture their brand's energy and stand out in the growing Brisbane southern suburbs community.
Our Solution
We designed and fabricated a two-layer acrylic logo sign where the white base does the heavy lifting—literally and visually:
| Layer | Material | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Base (Raised Layer) | 10mm white acrylic | Provides structure and creates physical depth—this layer is the raised part that makes the sign stand out from the wall |
| Front (Top Layer) | 3mm black acrylic with integrated colour details | Forms the logo wording, outline, and the signature "egg" element—all on the same level for a clean, seamless look |
Why Laser Cutting Made the Difference
When it comes to acrylic signage, the method you choose makes all the difference in the final result. With laser cutting, the edges come off the machine smooth, polished, and ready to install—almost glass-like in appearance. This is especially important when working with thicker materials like our 10mm white base, which cuts cleanly with beautifully finished edges automatically. The precision also means intricate details—like the fine lettering and coloured "egg" element in the Double Yolk logo—are captured with micron-level accuracy, and layers fit together perfectly every time. In contrast, a CNC router leaves edges rough, matte, and often opaque, requiring significant sanding and buffing before the sign is presentable. Fine details may need cleanup, and layer alignment can have slight variations that require adjustment. All of this adds up to longer turnaround times with CNC routing due to the extra finishing work required. For Double Yolk, this meant their sign was ready to install immediately—the 10mm white base came off the laser with smooth, polished edges, and the 3mm black front layer with its intricate details was perfectly cut and ready for assembly. No sanding, no buffing, no delays.
The Result
The finished sign now greets customers with a bold, professional statement that perfectly matches the cafe's energetic brand. The 10mm raised base gives it substantial presence on the wall, while the glossy black front with its signature "egg" colour catches the light and draws the eye. The owner reported that several customers have complimented the sign, and it's become a favourite backdrop for social media photos.
